Principal's Message
November 15, 2011
Dear Parents and Guardians of Granite Park Junior High School,
The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the steps we are taking as a school to provide a great education for your children. This past year, our school did not meet the Federal Standards of the No Child Left Behind Act. I would like to share with you the steps we are taking to make sure that our school meets these standards and the commitments we will keep to ensure a sound education for your children:
- Our teachers are provided with weekly Professional Development that focuses their attention on the most important things to teach our students. Once those things are decided, our teachers work together to create engaging lesson plans that will help our students to learn these concepts.
- Our school has a comprehensive after school remediation and enrichment program called "Grizzly Academy." Students are given additional tutoring opportunities with their teachers and are able to enroll in enrichment classes such as dance, art, cooking, sports and MESA (Math, Engineering & Science Association).
- Our school values outstanding student grades, attendance and behavior. Each quarter, students are recognized for their academic achievements in our Honor's Assembly, where certificates and prizes are given to every student who makes the Honor Roll. Each quarter, students are recognized for outstanding attendance in our Perfect Attendance party, where certificates and prizes are given to every student.
- All extra-curricular activities are referred to as "reward activities," and are based on student grades, attendance and behavior. Students learn quickly that good grades, attendance and behavior are rewarded at Granite Park Junior.
As the principal of Granite Park Junior High School, I welcome your feedback and input so that I can know what we can do to better serve the students and families of Granite Park Junior High School.
Sincerely,
Taran Chun, Principal
